It also helps in augmenting the food supply, generating employment, and raising nutritional levels. The state has a total bovine count of about 17.11 million of which superior cross-bred / up-graded cattle is 3.75 million. The State produces 4.9 million tonnes of milk annually. But only 2% of total production is being marketed by the organized sector. The state has a little over 0.6 million Buffaloes Recent advances in animal husbandry have demonstrated that scientific management and high-yielding animals have great potential for maximization of milk production.
