Monthly variations in the physico-chemical parameters of Mbo River were conducted across three stations, from May to December, 2009. The values ranged from 30.00 to 34.33ºC (temperature), 6.70 - 7.32 (pH), 0.5-1.4ppt (salinity), and 6.13 - 8.73mg/l for dissolved oxygen (DO). Monthly variation in the values of DO and temperature were significant (P<0.05). Plankton and surface water samples were collected from three stations and analyzed using standard method. The recorded phytoplanktons belonged to five taxa namely Bacillariophyceae (24 species), Chlorophyceae (14 species), Cyanobacteria (6 species), Dinophyceae(3 species), and Xanthophyceae (1 species). Bacillariophyceae was the most diverse group, while Xanthophyceae was the least in the number of species of phytoplanktons. The zooplanktons belonged to 3 taxa of Crustaceae (4 species), Rotifera (5 species), and Protozoa (1 species). Rotifera was the largest, while Protozoa was the least. Monthly analysis of variance showed no significant difference among the planktons.
