Are you ready to break free from the destructive grip of diet culture? In Breaking the Cycle, Luisa Mannering reveals how deeply entrenched diet culture messaging affects our self-esteem, relationships with food, and-most importantly-our children. A lot of us are victims of this pervasive mindset, conditioned to believe that our worth is tied to our weight and appearance. It doesn't have to be this way. This practical guide shows how we can unlearn the harmful beliefs and behaviours that have been passed down through generations. Drawing on research, personal stories, and actionable steps, Breaking the Cycle offers a roadmap to help parents, caregivers, and educators guide children toward a healthier relationship with food and their bodies.
Autorenporträt
Luisa Mannering, the author, lives in Glasgow and is the joint director of Lulu Maria Fun Spanish, a company that provides fun Spanish lessons for children aged 3-11 years. For most of her childhood and adolescence, she suffered from an eating disorder and was in therapy for 10 years. She now considers herself to be fully recovered. Although she is not a Health Professional or an expert on the development of body image, she fully understands how and why she developed negative and destructive beliefs about her body and food. It disheartens her to see the vicious body hatred and dieting cycle continue within families today. She feels compelled to do everything in her power to raise awareness and initiate change to break the cycle. Find her on Instagram @ed_recovered
