This study was developed based on concerns about how environmental education is implemented in the oil-producing municipalities of Sergipe. To conduct this analysis, we sought references in two oil-producing municipalities that would allow us to compare the possibilities for implementing environmental education. The municipalities chosen were Carmópolis and Pirambu. Carmópolis is a municipality where oil exploration occurs onshore, while in Pirambu, oil exploration occurs predominantly offshore. These differences are significant because the type of exploration has a direct relationship with how the environment is impacted and also how this impact is perceived by the inhabitants. The overall objective of this study was to analyse the implementation of formal and non-formal environmental education in the municipalities of Carmópolis and Pirambu, with a view to proposing joint action between the public authorities and oil exploration companies. Based on the bibliographic survey and interviews, it became clear that environmental education in both municipalities can be implemented efficiently if all sectors of society are involved.
