The story is based on the author's parents in their early twenties, the author's recollection of her mother's stories, and actual records from Augusta State Hospital.

Autorenporträt
Cheryl Grant Gillespie was born and has lived her entire life in Maine. After a forty-year career as a teacher, she starting writing memoir and creative non-fiction. She also contriubtes to a local magazine. She is proud to be one of five authors who penned an anthology entitled Compassionate Journey: Honoring Our Mothers' Stories, which was a finalist for the Foreword, Next Generation, and Book Fest Indie Awards in womens' and family relationship issues in 2019. Cheryl is a wife, mother, and grandmother.
