Lee Brown is a former trade union organizer. Before moving to New York City from Binghamton, N.Y., he was the founding president of Local 994 of the International Chemical Workers Union. In NYC he worked with the ILGWU, organizing shops in New York's garment center and in Brooklyn. As a community organizer he was active in housing issues and in the anti-apartheid movement. Before taking up writing fiction, Lee led a rock band called "Patterns of Grace," and he owned a coffeehouse for fifteen years. If he were forced to pick three favorite current writers, they would be Mosley, Miéville and Modiano. He loves watching the NBA and Canadian football. Lee has two wonderful daughters(whom he shares with his best friend and former wife, Amy Manso) and two grandsons, who he hopes, in the future, will continue the struggle for the rights of workers everywhere. Lee is a member of the Crime Writers of Color.
