Autorenporträt
Born into a family of potters in Stoke and apprenticed at 17, John Duncan attended the North Staffs Technical College and gained the Pottery Manager's Certificate. At 21 years, Duncan was made Works Manager of an old dinner & teaware factory employing 100 people. He was supposed to know all about earthenware manufacture. Inevitably, he was called on to fire an old bottle oven due to the untimely demise of the old fireman. The economic crisis following Suez closed the factory. Duncan left Stoke.
