This work reflects on the path built from research conducted with students from the Liceu do Conjunto Ceará high school: an artistic and pedagogical approach outlined in the process of staging the play "Herzer" by Márcia Oliveira, adapted from the book "A queda para o alto" by Sandra Mara Herzer. To this end, contemporary theater devices were brought to the stage in order to establish pedagogical procedures. In this sense, metatheatricality proved to be a powerful mechanism for revealing theatricality, thereby providing opportunities for the establishment of new modes of perception in students, both with regard to theater and their own reality. For this moment, three démarches were presented. The first deals with the path taken to establish metatheatricality as a procedure. The second reports on how the text was worked on, understanding it as an object (ready-made), and the third weaves together a new perspective for education, reflecting on how the metatheatrical procedure can become a powerful pedagogical device.
