Orlog. Ur-layers. Ancient, primal layers, shaped and laid by the Norns out of the seething masses of deeds and events of the Worlds, gathered over ages of time into the Well of Wyrd. Orlog. Ur-layers. Ancient, primal layers, shaped and laid by the Norns out of the seething masses of deeds and events of the Worlds, gathered over ages of time into the Well of Wyrd. The foundation of causality, and the shapings of fate. The primal or originating layers of events and actions, out of which present causes and effects arise. Though layered into the past, orlog continues to have an active, conditioning influence on the present, like yeast working within dough. Orlog and wyrd move our lives and deeds into realms of meaning and significance, away from randomness and insignificance. A deeper understanding of orlog can provide a solid foundation for Heathen philosophy, ethics, spiritual and religious practice. This in-depth exploration of orlog examines the concept and its implications from multiple angles: historical, traditional, exploratory, speculative, theoretical, and practical. Linguistics, philosophy, literature, ethics, folklore, analogies from science, the nature of time, Heathen metaphysics, and related ancient and modern Heathen religious and spiritual understandings are mined for insights into the mysterious phenomenon of orlog. In addition, this book provides discussions, suggestions, guidelines, exercises, rituals, and meditations for applying an understanding of orlog-dynamics to enhance modern Heathen life and spirituality. B&W illustrations add interest and offer focus for meditations.
