Under-five mortality (U5M) is one of the public health challenges that remains a big problem among the 15 member states of the Southern African Development Community (SADC). However, there are clear national and sub-reginal causal differences among the member states and across each sub-regions. These differences are associated with the level of economic development and climatic conditions. As a result, the high U5M in SADC requires a sub-regional strategy that considers socio-economic as well as climatic conditions so as to address this public.
