The work describes the renewable energy resources of Georgia quantitatively and qualitatively in country and regional contexts. It is mentioned that Georgia is rich in this regard and in some degree it fills the lack of fuel resources (oil, natural gas) in the country. The country is also rich with underground thermal waters. In the present work it is also given an assessment of the use of renewable energy resources. In this regard, it is a better situation with the use of hydro power resources. However, according to 2016 year data, Georgian HPPs worked out only 11.4% of their technical capacity and 23.6% of their economic potential. It is discussed the energy use of solar, wind and thermal waters at the initial stage. There are formulated suggestions for improving the use of these resources, including in terms of legal regulations.

Demur Chomakhidze - Member of the Georgian National Energy Regulatory Commission (GNERC) in 1996 - 2004. He worked at the Research Institute of Economy for 30 years. He is PhD in Economic Science, Professor, and member of several scientific academies in Georgia and abroad. Georgi Shengelia - Master of Economics. He is working in GNERC since 2013.
