This work is a survey of studies on education in the 18th century, developed in postgraduate programmes in Brazil between 1987 and 2010. It aims to understand the state of the art, identify the main themes and objects studied, and formulate hypotheses related to the production on this topic. Once the mapping was completed, the work revealed the main centres of scientific production on this subject and provided clues for understanding the debate on education in the colonial period that has developed over the last two decades and how this scientific production relates to the historiographical fields of Cultural History and New Political History. The survey was conducted in the CAPES Thesis Database.
