Berthold DIMANDJA LOHESE nació el 28 de noviembre de 1943 en Elunda Onyamboko, República Democrática del Congo. Asistió a los seminarios de Ototo y Kabwe antes de continuar sus estudios en la Universidad Lovanium de Kinshasa. Licenciado en Económicas en 1971, desarrolló una larga carrera en la compañía petrolera nacional de Kinshasa.
