recycling. It also covers key aspects of a sustainable biorefinery like design and innovation, environmental and socio-economic impact, life cycle assessment, policy and regulations.
Sustainable circular bioeconomy (CBE) plays a key role in realizing the objective of Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). The expanding population and industrialization has resulted in colossal volumes of biomass waste and a huge demand for clean energy technologies. This has created immense scientific focus on circular bioeconomy which primarily deals with the conversion of wastes into sustainable and environment friendly value-added products, thus enabling the minimization of waste. The recycling of wastes in closed loop systems produces bioproducts with low carbon footprint, high biodegradability, and other environmental and economic benefits. Written by eminent scientists in industrial biotechnology, this book presents detailed insights into the fundamentals and principles of sustainable waste management for successfully establishing circular bioeconomy.
The primary audience of this book is the undergraduate, postgraduate and PhD students, researchers, industrialists, policy makers and stakeholders. The targeted readership of this book is vast because sustainable biorefinery constitutes one of the fastest growing areas that interest government and private institutions, scientific societies, Non-governmental organizations (NGO), resource recovery and biotechnology companies.
