A dead woman thumbs a ride on a rainy night. A woman who can read lips sees two men plotting a murder. A blues singer gets even with the man who done her wrong. A female golfer has a wicked slice. An unhappy wife finds her true self under the light of the silvery moon. The sweet ladies of Death are sometimes funny, often beautiful, always resourceful, and usually deadly. They haunt your wildest dreams, from the magic of childhood wishes to your worst nightmares, and they straddle the lines between crime, supernatural, sci-fi, romance, and dark comedy. These ladies come to life in Steve Liskow's award-winning stories. And, yes, they make their own rules. This collection of 30 previously-published stories all delve into crime or mystery, but also dabble in romance, science fiction, supernatural, and occasional literary territory. Many of these stories have won or been finalists for the Edgar Award, Shamus Award, Anthony Award, Black Orchid Novella Award (first two-time winner), the Derringer Award, and the Al Blanchard Story Award.
Steve Liskow is a former teacher, theatrical actor, director, designer, and occasional musician who published his first short story after retiring from teaching. Since then, he has published 15 novels and nearly 70 short stories, mostly crime fiction, but also including supernatural, sci-fi, romance, and literary stories. He has won or been a finalist for the Edgar Award, the Shamus Award, the Anthony Award, the Black Orchid Novella Award, and the Al Blanchard Story Award. He lives in central Connecticut with his wife Barbara and Xena, a rescued Tuxedo cat.
