Stephen John Davies, BDS MSc FCGDent is a Lead Clinician of the Temporomandibular (TMD) Clinic at University Dental Hospital of Manchester in the UK, and the Lecturer in Occlusal and Temporomandibular Studies at the University of Manchester. He has held his current university position since 2001. He is a GDC registered Specialist in Restorative Dentistry. For over 40 years he worked in a primary care dental practice supporting five dentists, which he had started in 1974. He was the UK national representative on the Council of the European Academy of Craniomandibular Disorders (EACD) and past chairman of its Education Committee. He is a founder member of the European Academy of Orofacial Pain and Dysfunction [EAOPD]. He is a past President of the Manchester Medical Society Section of Odontology and won the Alan Hilton Memorial Medal for Research from the Manchester Medical Society in 1995. In 1995 together with Drs Gray and Quayle is published Temporomandibular Disorders: A Clinical Guide, of which this book is the 2nd and significantly revised edition. He is the author of more than 60 papers in refereed journals and the recently published book “A Guide to Good Occlusal Practice” ISBN 978-3-030-79224-4. Emma Beecroft BDS, MFDS RCS(Ed) is a Clinical Doctoral Fellow and Honorary Oral Surgery Specialty trainee at Newcastle University. Emma is a Diplomate of the American Board of Orofacial Pain and is currently working towards both oral surgery specialist training and a PhD focussed on orofacial pain. Alongside her thesis Emma is involved in clinical research as the clinical lead and associate principal investigator for the MiTiGate clinical trial. Emma was also the primary author of the NHS Eng. Getting It Right First Time and RSC Eng. FDS ‘Management of painful Temporomandibular disorder in adults’ UK national guideline. Both of which aim to improve the quality, efficiency, and outcome of care for individuals living with TMD. Justin Durham, BDS, MFDS RCS(Ed), FDS (OS) RCS, PhD is a Professor of Orofacial Pain and an Honorary Consultant Oral Surgeon at Newcastle-Upon-Tyne’s Hospitals’ NHS Foundation Trust in the UK. He negan at Newcastle University as a Clinical Fellow/Hon SpR in Oral Surgery. He obtained his PhD, “Ideologies and outcomes in Temporomandibular Disorders (TMD)”, from Newcastle University, subsequently completing his Oral Surgery specialist training and becoming the first person in the UK to pass the American Board of Orofacial Pain. In his clinical practice, he has established and leads a multidisciplinary orofacial pain clinic that receives tertiary-level referrals from both dental and medical specialities in the North-East of England. In addition to holding a prestigious NIHR award/funding, he has previously received the outstanding post-doctoral award from the Behavioural, Epidemiology, and Health Services Research group of the International Association of Dental Research (IADR), for his research into Temporomandibular disorders (TMD). His teaching was also acknowledged through the Vice-Chancellor’s award for excellence in teaching and learning, and he also received the IADR Education Research Faculty award in 2010.
