A curse spanning seven centuries. A family line doomed to die at the hands of the son. Born into a lineage shadowed by a dark and baffling curse, the young Count Antoine de C. is the sole remaining heir of a noble French family. For generations, every male member of his house has met a gruesome, untimely death upon reaching the age of thirty-two. Raised in isolation within his ancestral chateau, Antoine is consumed by the mystery of the curse. He obsessively studies the strange, cryptic writings left behind by his forebears, all of whom perished on the same fateful birthday. His research points to a single, terrifying figure from the depths of his family's history: a medieval sorcerer and alchemist named Charles Le Sorcier. As Antoine nears the age of thirty-two, he realizes that the threat is not merely a metaphor or a superstition, but a very real, very present danger. He must confront the resurrected horror of his past and the true, agonizing identity of the one who has maintained this lineage of slaughter for seven hundred years. H. P. Lovecraft's early gothic tale is a masterpiece of atmospheric dread and inherited doom. "The Alchemist" is a chilling exploration of the persistence of evil, where the ties of blood are the chains that bind the living to a relentless, murderous curse.
