Peter Roberts initially produced his series of books to help first-time British visitors to European countries on holiday. They were each entitled "Learn 35 Words to Speak...". This idea was successful, with the initial series including French, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, German, Welsh and Irish Gaelic. The series is presently being extended to include Greek and Japanese. Bearing in mind the success of these simple and inexpensive books, and the excellent five-star reviews that they have received, Peter Roberts decided to supplement four of them to help people travelling to EU countries to improve their communication skills even more; this latter series includes, "Learn 35 Verbs to Speak Better French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese". They continue to concentrate on only learning the 5% of the language that is needed, whilst discarding the unnecessary 95%. The Verb books continue giving the detailed care needed to explain, using a simplified phonetic system, how every word and phrase should be pronounced. Excellent pronunciation is as much a part of being understood as having the appropriate vocabulary. Dr Roberts has made these features the core of his excellent, internationally-selling language books, encapsulating the "Roberts System".
