Carlos Canelas è, dal 2001, docente presso l'Istituto Politecnico di Guarda, nei settori del giornalismo e della comunicazione audiovisiva e multimediale. In termini di formazione accademica, ha conseguito un master in Comunicazione e Giornalismo presso l'Università di Coimbra e un dottorato in Informazione e Comunicazione su Piattaforme Digitali presso le Università di Aveiro e Porto.
