This research focuses on the schooling process of young people and adults in the municipal education network of Carangola/MG, as well as understanding their perspectives on the education they receive. The main objective arose from the perspective of understanding, from the point of view of students and teachers, the high rate of dropout and repetition in this type of education in the municipality in question. The research was carried out with youth and adult education classes (first stage of primary education) at the Antônio Marques Municipal School and in its two linked and multi-grade classes, located in a state school in the municipality. As a result, I highlight elements for rethinking the schooling process of these students in the municipality, emphasising the need for public policies aimed at this segment of the population, mainly because it has historically been degraded by the low quality of education.
