"Fear is the enemy, not cancer." When cancer enters your life, it doesn't just happen to you-it transforms everyone in your circle. The terror of diagnosis can paralyze patients and loved ones alike, but two-time cancer thriver Sue Paulson offers a revolutionary perspective: What if cancer isn't your enemy, but your teacher? Drawing from her own journey through cancer twice, Sue reveals the questions she wished she'd known to ask and the support she desperately needed but couldn't articulate. The Healing Call of Cancer fills those critical gaps with practical, step-by-step guidance for both patients and their support teams. While traditional medicine focuses solely on the body, Sue's holistic approach addresses the mind-body-soul connection in healing. She encourages readers to explore their life patterns and history, asking: "What has led me to this moment, and what is cancer trying to teach me?" This isn't about blame-it's about responsibility. Sue insists that cancer arrives for a reason: either as a final teacher or as a wake-up call to propel you from suffering into the life you've always dreamed of living. Whether you're facing your own diagnosis or supporting someone who is, this book serves as both practical resource and conversation starter, designed to transform fear into understanding and isolation into healing community. "Cancer came for a reason. The question is: What does this formidable teacher want you to know?" "Sharing your cancer journey was very meaningful to our clients, especially the spiritual, mental, emotional and physical aspects of cancer." - Susan, Optimum Wellness Clinic "Your poem, Cancer and Me made me cry. I've been cancer-free 7 years-still emotionally raw. Cancer sufferers and supporters can all benefit from your book." - Wes Braga, Cancer Survivor
Despite her knocking knees, Sue got her first audience applause at age 10 after reciting a poem at church. Drawn to the front of the room, she started teaching a personal growth program in her late 20s. By 34, she was developing and conducting corporate workshops. At 42, she traveled Alberta as a paid speaker with topics such as stress reduction, conflict resolution, and team development. A self-taught educator, Sue began the first of her 15 years of part time teaching at MacEwan University. Her topics - business writing, public speaking, and study skills. In 1999 she published her first best-selling book, Tips & Tools for Student Success. It was followed in 2003 by her award-winning Tips & Tools to Speak with Confidence. For her 50th birthday, Sue successfully challenged herself to perform 5 minutes of stand-up comedy on Amateur Night at Yuk Yuks. She has worked as a voice-over artist, composed music, coached budding speakers, and appeared as an expert on TV and radio shows and on podcasts. Thriving since her near-death experience in 2007 and bouts of cancer in 2011 and 2012, Sue published her memoir about those experiences, Magnificent Misery - From Adversity to Ecstasy in 2015. She has since launched her app, The Magnificence Mentor - a free download. Her latest book is The Healing Call of Cancer. Her passion now involves inspiring others to Be their magnificent selves - to move from survival to thrival. (Oh and devour multiple soft ice cream cones with her twin granddaughters!)
