Hiwot (Emu) is an ordinary girl with an extraordinary heart. She resides in Boston, Massachusetts, and works in one of Boston's most vibrant, diverse, and inspiring public school departments, dedicating herself to the community she loves. The youngest in her family, she is not just a daughter, but also the best sister, a beloved aunt to her wonderful nieces and nephews, a fun godmother, and a cherished friend. Deeply connected to her Ethiopian-American heritage and East African culture, Hiwot values family, friendship, and the power of community. Hiwot's passion for storytelling was ignited in elementary school, earning her several awards and recognition. Her outspoken nature and dedication to diversity led her to receive the Special Humanity Award from her college, as well as having a poem published in her school magazine. Inspired by the richness of her background and her deep love for society, Emu believes that children are the greatest gifts to families, communities, and the world. She is committed to nurturing, protecting, and guiding them on their journey-one story at a time.
