This book is set in the era of Prophet Muhammad when the revolution of Islam began to take root in the Arabian desert, and when the Prophet of Allah had established the Islamic state of Madinah to secure the future and the destiny of the Muslims. As the Prophet's life was coming to an end, he had the option of either choosing a successor or leave that decision to his companions and followers. The book tackles this key question head on which eventually resulted in the formation of Sunni and Shia schools of thought that we see today in the Muslim Ummah. It offers an introduction to Shia Islam based on the historical Islamic events. Today Shia Islam is followed by millions of Muslims worldwide, yet many people know little about the Shia faith, its early history, beliefs and practices. The book discusses and explains the role of Imam Ali in relation to the early Caliphs, the stand of Imam Hussain in the tragedy of Karbala and the events of Ashura which are central to the Shia identity. It also highlights the political differences between Sunni vs Shia Muslims which took place after the demise of Prophet Muhammad.
