MICHAEL BREM BONNER received his PhD from the University of California, Riverside. He is the author of Confederate Political Economy: Creating and Managing a Southern Corporatist Nation and coeditor of South Carolina in the Civil War and Reconstruction Eras: Essays from the Proceedings of the South Carolina Historical Association. PETER McCORD received his PhD from the University of California, Riverside. He teaches history at the State University of New York at Fredonia; his articles have appeared in the North Carolina Historical Review and Journal of Left History.
