In recent years, wild boar populations have increased significantly throughout Europe, causing crop damage, health risks and, of course, impacts on other species. This paper analyzes the factors that determine the abundance of wild boar in the Community of Madrid and its possible impact on rabbit, fox, wildcat and marten populations, considering also other spatial factors. It is proposed that the wild boar may be "appropriating" the scrublands while displacing the rabbit towards cultivated areas, with all the effects that this entails for both ecosystems and humans.
