Yáng Zhì is a fictional character in the Water Margin, one of the Four Great Classical Novels of Chinese literature. He ranks 17th of the 36 Heavenly Spirits of the 108 Liangshan heroes and is nicknamed "Blue Faced Beast". The Water Margin describes Yang Zhi as standing at about seven feet, with red whiskers on the sides of his face, and a blue birthmark on his face which earns himself the nickname "Blue Faced Beast". Yang Zhi is highly-skilled in martial arts and uses either a saber or a spear in battle. He is also an excellent archer as well. Yang is a descendant of the famous Song Dynasty military general Yang Ye from the Yang Family Generals. He works as a low-ranking military officer in the office of Grand Marshal Gao Qiu in Dongjing.
