James Dillard Brownridge has always had a passion for investigating the wonders of nature. As a child, he had a research table in his room and loved to do experiments. Now, he is a senior research fellow at Binghamton University's physics department. His first contribution to scientific literature was published in 1959 in Sky and Telescope while he was a student at Jackson State University. Since then, he has written many papers that have been accepted and published by scientific journals. Interviews and write-ups about his work have been featured in publications such as Chemistry World, Science News, PBS NOVA, SUNY Research Foundation, New Scientist, and more. He has been invited to review numerous manuscripts and has served on peer review panels for organizations such as the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Energy, and the U.S. State Department. He has also been invited to speak at many universities including Duke University, Jackson State University, West Point Military Academy, University of Michigan, and Binghamton University. And finally, he was invited to be the plenary speaker at the 19th International Conference on the Application of Accelerators in Research and Industry in 2006. It had over 1500 attendees. As a result of his impressive work, Mr. Brownridge has won a host of prestigious rewards including the R&D 100 Award and Binghamton University's highest honor, the University Medal.
