By doing so, and by reinforcing his interpretation with excerpts from the Tao Te Ching and the Upanishads, Crittenden shows that all of us, and not just philosophers, can learn from the Republic how to live authentic, rich, full lives by searching out the transcendent light.

Jack Crittenden is Emeritus Professor at Arizona State University, where he taught political theory for thirty years. He is the author of seven books, among which are Beyond Individualism (1992), Democracy's Midwife (2002), Wide as the World (2011), and Direct Deliberative Democracy (2019).
