Kitui and Caleb marry and have a son, Jacob. Caleb joins the Underground Railroad. He introduces Kitui to the other rebel slaves and Joshua and Evelyn Miller whose farm is a safe house for runaways. Caleb is caught and killed. Pruett whips Kitui as punishment for Caleb's activities.

Kitui meets Jéremie Colby, a mulatto doctor hired by the plantation owners to attend to the slaves. He treats her wounds and teaches her some rudiments of medicine. As she heals, Kitui vows revenge for Caleb. She uses her new reading and writing ability to get information about preparations for succession and the coming war for the Union.

Pruett eventually sends Kitui to work with Colby but she must leave her son with Vesta. Colby discovers that Kitui can read but promises to keep her secret. Working with the doctor, her movements are not suspect.

Colby and Kitui work in his medical practice together and fall in love. He monitors her movements, but doesn't ask questions She is a quick study and soon has a broad knowledge of medical procedures. Colby is conscripted into the Confederate Army and must leave Kitui behind.

Kitui path leads here on a search for the lighthouse hardware that were hidden by the Confederacy to

learns that the Frensel Lenses from lighthouses are being hidden by the Confederacy. A wounded Confederate soldier provides clues to where the lenses are and reveals that Joshua Dalton, now a Confederate soldier, is involved. The chase ends in a confrontation in a cemetery, leaving Kitui wounded and far from home.

Colby negotiates with the Confederate army to use his knowledge of the Louisiana coast to gain his freedom. He leads a daring sea chase to take precious cargo through the Union blockade.

Will Kitui and Colby be reunited? The ending is filled with unexpected events and inspiring moments. You won't be disappointed.

Sara Armstrong is an adventurer, wife, mother, widow, single parent, caregiver, mayor, grandmother, and great-grandmother- a true survivor of numerous life transitions. She is a seminary graduate with a master's degree in religious education from Claremont School of Theology.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, she joined the Peace Corps in 1966 for two years of adventure. She married a Ugandan in 1968 and began a journey through the terror and chaos of Idi Amin Dada. Sara lived as an ordinary person, giving her a unique view of the destruction of a thriving nation. Her book, The Shattered Pearl, is a vivid, terrifying, inspiring account of those years in Africa. It is available on numerous platforms.

After returning from Uganda, Sara was widowed and threw her energies into raising two children, taking care of her aging parents, and participating in local politics. She helped to incorporate and served as the first Mayor of the Town of Shorter, Alabama.

In 1992, Sara married Bob Armstrong. Bob passed away in 2006 from cancer. In 2007 Sara moved to Atlanta, Georgia to be close to her family. She has two children, eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Sara's creative passions are sharing her faith and helping those dealing with grief and loss using her social media page Grateful Grief and YouTube channel Faithteachersara. She enjoys writing innovative fiction, prayers, and motivational presentations.
