In April 2019, after prolonged rainfall in drought-stricken Cyprus, the body of a Filipino domestic worker is discovered. This marks the beginning of a horrific unraveling that leads to the uncovering of seven victims-the country's first recorded serial killer's victims: five migrant women and two children. Their bodies are found scattered across different locations, including the Red Lake, a flooded pit at the disused Mitsero mine, where in the past, dozens of miners drew their last breath, struck down by pneumoconiosis. A woman whose husband died young in that same fatal mine narrates her own harsh life story, triggered by the gradual discovery of the murdered women. Alongside her voice echoes the ancient voice of the land: myths and legends reaching back to Homeric epics and culminating in the head of Chatsworth-what remains of a bronze statue of Apollo that still haunts the lives and dreams of the people. A story suspended between past and future: British colonialists, migrant workers, the Water Dragon, and a place that keeps unearthing-both alive and drowned-its secrets.
