Some of his favorite books as a child included The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, Treasure Island, and The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe. Nicknamed "Rowdy" by family and friends despite his mild-mannered nature, he writes stories for children and young adults, blending old folktales with the rich atmosphere of his Pacific Northwest roots.
