Autorenporträt

Oscar Wilde nació el 16 de octubre de 1854 en Dublín, Irlanda. Fue un escritor, poeta y dramaturgo cuyo sarcasmo social e increíble ingenio le hicieron mundialmente famoso. Procedía de una familia aristocrática. Comenzó sus estudios en el Trinity College y los terminó en Oxford; periodo en el que aprovechó para estudiar los clásicos de la literatura griega, convirtiéndose así en un experto en la materia. Gracias a ello ganó varios premios de poesía clásica, entre ellos el prestigioso Newdigate Prize for Poetry. Se instaló en Londres en 1879, y dos años más tarde contrajo matrimonio.
