Many fad diets exist. Low carb, low fat, low calorie. I have observed in my 28 years as a physician that not one type appears to be the crown jewel. Vegetarians always brag as to how healthy they are, but like omnivores, they too suffered health problems like hypertension, diabetes, stroke, heart disease and autoimmune disease. There is no doubt that genetics plays a large role. I find it intriguing how many cultures who relocate or become "civilized" such as aborigines not only become obese, but develop inflammatory conditions such as heart disease, stroke and autoimmune disease. My ancestors back in Cuba were all farmers. They had no luxuries, lived off the land. But lived well into their 90s. Since my family moved here in the 1960s, they suddenly are dying in their 50s and 60s. My mother, along with one of her sisters and my own sister developed what appears to be Lewy body dementia. There was no report of dementia and any of my ancestors back in Cuba. Based on facts presented, the blood type hypothesis appears to make the most sense because it connects right to the root of your ancestry and food tolerability and as I discuss, plays right into the theory that obesity, as well as diabetes, heart disease and autoimmune disease are directly linked to chronic inflammation. For another consecutive year, United States was rated as having the worst healthcare system of any developed country. The cost of drugs in the USA our average about 2,000 times the cost of other developed countries. Our health system is for profit, insurance companies are at the top of the food chain so they make the rules. In order to maximize profits, insurance companies, specifically Highmark actually criminalize doctor activity that spends too much money and compromises their profit. So far, the Biden administration has turned the other cheek. The Trump administration acknowledged that prosecutorial, judicial misconduct and collusion between insurance companies and the government was a problem, but did not consider it a priority. In the 1950s, it was implicated that a main source of our health problems including heart disease was dietary fat. This despite lack of evidence and that dietary fat in itself does not lead to chronic inflammation or even deposition of fat. Since then, we've had an epidemic of obesity, which has led to multiple fad diets that work in an inconsistent fashion. Here I raise awareness of the actual scientific facts.
