When quiet artist Sewell of Landers and soulful selkie Rhyannon fall in love, they yearn to marry as soon as possible. But their families have doubts about the match, for they come from different worlds. Rhyannon is a peasant, while Sewell is not only a noble, but a son of the phoenix, whose song remains the most powerful weapon in the realm. It stuns Sewell when he discovers that his mother's voice threatens a member of his household, and he fears exposing Rhyannon to the repercussions. Sending a phoenix after one's enemies seems like excellent strategy, but what about when those enemies lurk in the heart of one's family? The Landers have faced many challenges that have brought them closer together. Will this be the one that finally tears them apart? **A Note to New Readers** While essentially a standalone story, The Siren and the Selkie contains characters and refers to situations from my already published series The Landers Saga and The Phoenix Realm. I think you can enjoy this novel without having read any of the preceding books--it is a companion volume, not a sequel. However, be aware that there will be revelations of some pivotal events from previous books. Thank you for your interest and as always, happy reading!

Autorenporträt
As a child, Karen suffered frequent bouts of insomnia. The only way she could settle into sleep many nights was to imagine stories that played out like movies on the dark ceiling over her bed. Since her mean parents refused to replace the TV after the cat blew it up by peeing on the cord, all Karen had left to entertain herself in the lone wilds of the Minnesota wilderness were books and her own stories. As Karen grew, the stories grew with her. One day when she was fourteen, she told her mother one of these stories for probably the hundredth time. Her mother, who knew Karen very well, turned to her and said, "You know, Karen, you keep talking about these stories, but you never write them down. You keep saying you're going to write a novel, but I don't believe that you will." This comment infuriated Karen so much that she started writing her stories down and hasn't stopped since.
