Yet another Springer work that fills a real gap in the scientific literature. A number of textbooks have been written about TEE, primarily in the adult setting, and focusing almost exclusively on "adult" forms of heart disease. During the past decade, though, refinements in TEE probe technology have enabled the application of this technique in the evaluation of congenital and acquired heart disease in infants and children. It's used mainly as an intraoperative tool, and employed primarily by pediatric cardiologists and anesthesiologists. However, comparatively little educational material (in the form of textbooks or manuals) is available regarding the use of TEE in congenital heart disease (CHD). Now, Springer has sprung to the rescue, with this brilliant new work which is currently the only textbook to deal with the use of the TEE technique in CHD in the young.
