Produktbeschreibung
Nikolai Iosifovich Likharev (1873-1908) was a Russian writer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, who also published under the pseudonym N. Streshnev. Despite his short life, he left a significant mark on historical fiction, exploring themes of spiritual quests, church history, and the dramatic upheavals of Russian statehood. His works include the chronicle "Hellish Year, or the Jesuits in Russia," and the novellas "Under the Oppression of the Union," "Jewish Captivity," and others. This volume includes two historical novellas: "Voronogray" and "The Russian Savonarola." The novella "Voronogray" is dedicated to the fate of Grand Duke Vasily II the Dark, whose life became a symbol of the struggle for the throne and spiritual fortitude. The narrative depicts the turmoil and strife of the 15th century: the prince's expulsion from Moscow, his blinding by order of Dmitry Shemyaka, and his return to power after long trials. Through the hero's personal drama, Likharev conveys the atmosphere of a time where power, faith, and betrayal are woven into a single historical fabric. In the second story, "The Russian Savonarola," the author turns to the era of Vasily III, recounting the fate of the Greek monk Maximus the Greek, who arrived in Moscow to translate liturgical books. His life in Russia is a story of spiritual achievement and the clash of ideals with church and state authorities. Likharev's works are distinguished by their authenticity, expressive language, and profound interest in the inner world of man within the context of history. The collection "Voronogray. The Russian Savonarola" explores two different yet consonant themes: power and faith, trials and steadfastness, and the fate of the individual in the face of time.
