What Happens When the Scaffolding Falls? A Philosophical Inquiry into Sex, Identity, and the Self By Sean Ash

In a time of rising tension around sex, gender, and identity, one man sets out not to argue, but to ask. What begins as a deeply personal exploration of trans identity, attraction, and the boundaries of gender quickly becomes something even more intimate: a search for the truth of his own identity.

Growing up in a multicultural community and shaped by the experience of becoming paralysed from the waist down, Sean Ash brings a rare perspective to one of the most emotionally charged debates of our time. Blending philosophical inquiry with lived experience, he asks: What does it mean to be a man? Is identity something we're born with, or something we build? And when the categories we've always relied on begin to collapse, what's left beneath the scaffolding?

Unflinchingly honest and full of compassion, What Happens When the Scaffolding Falls? is not a manifesto. It's a mirror. A call for deeper reflection, shared humanity, and the freedom to question-even when the answers are uncomfortable.

Autorenporträt
Sean Ash has an academic background in politics, philosophy, and counselling studies, with a deep passion for exploring the complexities of human nature. A disabled wheelchair user after experiencing Cauda Equina syndrome, he is a strong advocate for disability rights and helping others navigate painboth physical and emotional. These themes are central to his storytelling, delving into the delicate balance between suffering and what it means to be truly alive. This debut science fiction novel challenges readers to reconsider the price of comfort and the necessity of pain in shaping human experience.
