Long after those who wrote them are gone, words still have power. Power to change lives. No matter when they were written, words alone can still fill a mind with wisdom, good advice and comfort. For many years the author collected inspiring quotes, writing them down on 3 x 5 cards. Whenever he needed a ''mental lift'' the cards were there to help. Eventually, he began to write down thoughts of his own. Years after retirement, rather than forget them, he decided to put them, along with some of his favorites from others, into this book.

Autorenporträt
Steven C. Dondlinger grew up on a farm in Nebraska. Neither of his parents went to college. His father, a farmer, had only been educated through the eighth grade. Likely, it was for this reason that his parents were generous enough to allow him to pursue a higher education. Medicine, as a career, was never considered, due to a fear of blood. His original plan was to be a mathematics professor. Stumbling on a quote by Ralph Waldo Emerson: "Do the thing you fear, and the death of fear is certain.", was the beginning of a change of mind after receiving a bachelor's degree in mathematics. He obtained his Doctor of Medicine degree at the University of Nebraska School of Medicine in 1975, after which he spent the rest of his training in Madison, Wisconsin in the department of Anesthesiology in the University of Wisconsin hospital. He was board certified in 1982 and worked in Minneapolis, Minnesota in various hospitals and surgery centers until retirement in 2014.
