"The Wild Palms" is a novel by William Faulkner that tells two separate but connected stories. The first story follows Harry Wilburn, a medical student who quits his job and runs off with married Charlotte. William Faulkner

Dem Dichter William Faulkner (* New Albany 1897, † Oxford/USA 1962) wurde 1950 rückwirkend der Nobelpreis für Literatur 1949 zuerkannt und verliehen. Der amerikanische Autor der Moderne mit Vorliebe für ländliches und kleinstädtisches Leben, das er in einem fiktiven Yoknapatawpha County entstehen ließ, verdiente seinen Lebensunterhalt auch als Drehbuchautor in Hollywood oder als Autor von Kurzgeschichten, die er an Magazine verkaufte. Bekannt wurde William Faulkner u. a. durch "Schall und Wahn" (1929), "Die Freistatt" (1931) oder "Licht im August" (1935). Faulkner trat als Südstaatler für die Gleichberechtigung der Rassen ein und arbeitete mit dem Thema auch als Schriftsteller, u. a. in den Werken "Absalom, Absalom!" (1936) oder "Griff in den Staub" (1948), das auch verfilmt wurde. William Faulkner starb an den Folgen eines Reitunfalles.
