Born in France, Cardinal Alexis Lépicier (1863-1936) was a member of the Order of the Servants of Mary. He dedicated his life to the service of the Church and her faithful. As a priest, he distinguished himself through pastoral work and theological scholarship and was named superior general of the Servites. His appointment as archbishop and his subsequent elevation to the college of cardinals stand as testaments to his leadership and commitment to Catholic doctrine. While a chair of dogmatic theology, he also filled positions in five Roman Congregations. His tract De Beata Virgine Maria Matre Dei was one of the earliest Scholastic treatments of Marian theology, and his writings influenced the neoscholastic revival. Cardinal Lépicier was an official for the Congregation for the Propagation of the Faith.
