The book is an informative piece explaining the concept of a watershed, in a way that is easily understood by young children. How water enters and interacts within it, and the various ways people utilize and impact the watersheds. It begins by defining a watershed as a land area that collects and channels all surface and ground water to a common outlet. The process of water entering the watershed is described through a three-stage cycle: precipitation, evaporation and condensation. The text highlights the importance of watersheds is agriculture, oxygen production, water recycling, recreation, habitat provision and water storage. It also delves into the structure and function of aquifers, emphasizing their role in storing freshwater. Furthermore, it discusses various aspects of watershed pollution, distinguishing between point source and non-point source pollution. Examples of pollutants such as trash, animal waste, pesticides, oil and fertilizer are provided, along with their harmful effects on the environment and marine life. The texts concludes by emphasizing the importance of individual responsibility in mitigating pollution through recycling, proper waste disposal and limiting the use of harmful chemicals. Overall, it serves as an educational resource advocating for the conservation and protection of watersheds. It has a rhyming style because children comprehend rhymes and humor over bland text. This book focuses on the watershed because I feel it is a good starting point for what will become a series of books on conservationism. The initial focus on water is due to my vision that the Bugibatuki land with their spaceships in basins of water around planet earth and when they come out of their space vehicles sea animals get stuck on their heads. Based on this description I envisioned these aliens as beings that travel the cosmos to help worlds manage their ecosystems and thus create harmony between nature and the natives.
