Charles Ellis, Sr. is a devoted husband, father, and experienced mental health professional whose life journey deeply influences his writing. Raised in the projects of Baltimore, Maryland, he learned the value of perseverance from his mother, who worked tirelessly to elevate their family to a better life. He joined the U.S. Air Force, where he trained as a weapons mechanic and served in Southeast Asia during the final months of the Vietnam War. This experience opened his eyes to the complexities of trauma, leading him to return to academia. He earned an undergraduate degree in psychology from Morgan State University and a Master's in Clinical Mental Health Social Work from the University of Maryland. Charles has dedicated his career to helping others heal, working with the Department of Veterans Affairs to support combat veterans transitioning back to civilian life. He later moved to Los Angeles County and founded Trailways, Inc., also known as Medical Centers of Nevada, where he currently serves as Chairman of the Board. His passion for service and his commitment to mental health have made him a respected figure in his field. A product of the Black Power and Civil Rights movements, Charles believes in fairness, justice, and personal responsibility. He is the author of Beyond the Wound, a book that shares techniques for trauma recovery and insights gained from his extensive experience. Through his writings and professional practice, Charles aims to inspire resilience, promote healing, and encourage meaningful connections among individuals, fostering a sense of community and understanding in an increasingly divided world.
