Reality is broken-and only a twelve-year-old and his uncle's junkyard inventions can fix it. When Brian Matthews discovers a strange machine hidden in his Uncle Harold's shed, his world flips upside down. Harold, an eccentric scientist-turned-auto-mechanic, has built something impossible: the Quantum Viewer-a device that lets you watch alternate realities like flipping through TV channels. With his loyal (and frequently panicked) best friend Winch and his hilariously fearless little brother Greg, Brian explores bizarre versions of their world-some fun, some terrifying, all dangerously real. But watching can only take them so far. After the Viewer is destroyed, Harold unveils his greatest invention yet: DINA, a beat-up car modified for dimension-hopping. Now they're not just observing other realities-they're in them. From dystopian deserts to twisted hometowns, the team must dodge danger, face impossible choices, and figure out who they can trust across timelines. Because in the multiverse, every choice matters-and some versions of yourself... should never exist. The Quantum Mechanic is a fast-paced sci-fi adventure grounded in real principles of quantum physics-a thrilling, mind-bending journey that teaches courage, responsibility, and the power of critical thinking. Ideal for classroom discussion, this story blends scientific concepts with moral complexity, making it a valuable addition to any school or library collection.
Autorenporträt
Brian Spychalla was born and raised in South Central Wisconsin. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Information Technology from Arizona State University in 2002. Having spent significant portions of his life in both Arizona and California, Brian has had a diverse and dynamic career, working as a Systems/Network Administrator, VOIP Engineer, and professional equities trader. Brian's writing journey has been a series of starts and stops, with several attempts to write a book over the years. However, it was in 2024 that he finally succeeded in completing his first full book. The inspiration for his novel, "The Quantum Mechanic," came from a strange and exciting dream that left him waking up in the middle of the night, laughing from a dead sleep. This dream eventually became the foundation for Chapter 14 of his book, and he felt compelled to build an entire story around that singular, vivid experience. In addition to writing, Brian has a wide range of personal interests. He is an avid reader, enjoys riding his Can-Am motorcycle, and is politically active. He also loves trading stocks and is a passionate follower of his favorite Wisconsin sports teams. Brian draws significant inspiration from J.K. Rowling. He believes that Rowling's work, particularly the Harry Potter series, has transformed reading from a chore into an eagerly anticipated activity for countless children around the world. Her ability to inspire generations of readers is something Brian deeply admires and hopes to emulate in his own writing. Through his work, Brian aspires to inspire the youth of tomorrow, much like J.K. Rowling has done. He believes in the power of storytelling to shape minds, ignite imaginations, and foster a lifelong love of reading. Brian Spychalla
