The last god to leave a human battlefield is the one who has to lead the dead to Hades. After the fall of Troy, that number is nearly immeasurable. It was not just a war between mortals, but one between the deathless gods too - a family split down the middle. Mothers, wives, and children from all over Greece pray to the god of travelers to shepherd their missing warriors to their native shores, but for many, these are prayers that must go unanswered. Trips to the Underworld are rather fine, though the bodies continue to climb while the gods pick off the rest of the mortals they deem unworthy. The guardian of the Nostos desires nothing more than to aid a living soul home - just one to satisfy his whim. Yet King Agamemnon was dead, King Menelaus was almost to Sparta with Helen in tow, and Diomedes and Nestor had safely made it to their lands. There is Odysseus, the King of Ithaca. The cunning inventor of the Trojan Horse was still aptly troubled by powerful gods in the Pantheon. He could use a discreet hand to aid him home. And Hermes, at least, has a hand.
