We've heard enough ranting. What I want to focus on in this book is the seeking, no rather the adamant taking hold of real lasting peace, admiration of beauty, and the return to a simpler way of life. For instance, what does it even really mean to pray? To some, the closest concept you've considered has been dubbed, "mindfulness," or "meditation" though arguably there is a difference. Maybe we've been told so many times by priests, youth ministers, gurus and spiritual books that we need to pray, but it's hard to tell people to find happiness in prayer when we've forgotten the very essence of prayer. Or, how do we become truly integrated, fulfilled human persons?
There is a grasping, a desperate reaching out-restlessness stirring in hearts. The Christian no longer knows how to witness because he or she does not possess much trust in any one set of beliefs or institutions. There is a crisis of indecision and widespread failure to launch from home among young adults especially because we are left out on the open seas of life with no compass. There is great discord in the intersection between religion and politics, even though the two are meant to be in harmony with one another.
We are longing to be whole. We are seeking to find beauty and ideals that do not fade. This won't be a book about abstract ideas. It is a book about the almost forgotten art of being human. It will fill your heart and mind with peace, because it is all about finding goodness and beauty. There is always a need to seek the Truth, especially when forming your conscience and "girding your loins" against the agenda of the world, however this book, being rooted in Truth, will not address it directly. This book is for you, whether you view the world from the traditional Christian worldview or not. Stop feeding yourself with anger, dissension and confusion, and come find a reality so worthwhile, that I guarantee you, it is better than an escape.
