Heather is a qualified nurse with 30 years of experience working in health care. She also has an advanced diploma in Creative Hypnotherapy, specialising in supporting people with persistent pain conditions. For the last 11 years, she has dedicated her time to understanding more about vulval and vaginal pain in order to improve the quality of life for women living with these conditions. In collaboration with consultant gynaecologists, dermatologists and a fellow patient, she established and facilitated a support group for women living with vulval and vaginal pain. Heather runs a private clinic, providing online and face to face hypnotherapy and mindfulness sessions for people living with persistent pain. The majority of her patients seek support for female health conditions including vulvodynia, lichen sclerosus, endometriosis, vaginismus, perimenopause and menopause. She also provides treatments for people with painful bladder syndrome and irritable bowel syndrome. For many years, she suffered from recurrent and persistent vulval and vaginal pain and experienced the challenges of navigating the healthcare system, searching for answers. As a health professional, she frequently hears the same frustrations of other women struggling to gain acknowledgement and answers, or a way forward to manage their intimate pain. Although there are some fantastic health professionals, many women still struggle to access care or find reliable sources of information and help. Heather has written this book to address this need. Her passion is to educate and empower women to find the answers that will support them with effective management of their vulval and vaginal pain conditions, reduce their pain, and improve their quality of life. She has combined her professional knowledge and personal experiences to create a book that is empathetic, informed and evidence-based. She wants women to know they are not alone and that there is realistic hope that, with the right combination of treatment and therapies, their condition can improve. No matter how long women have lived with the condition, it may be possible to effect positive change, live more comfortably, feel happier and reduce the experience of pain. This is the book that she needed when she was suffering from vulval and vaginal pain and was desperate for answers. This is the book that her clients have encouraged her to write. For anyone living with vulval or vaginal pain, this book is written for you.
