Jeanne Cassidy never dreamed she would fall in love so deeply, especially after age forty. But as soon as her husband, Tom, saw retired racing Greyhounds featured on an episode of The Joan Rivers Show and encouraged her to take a look, the beautiful dogs immediately captured her heart. In a poignant retelling of her experiences with Greyhounds, Jeanne begins by detailing a visit to a Connecticut residence in 1990 where she and Tom were introduced to a quiet, two-year-old female who was cringing at the back of her crate. After adopting and naming her Ping Ping, Jeanne discloses how she and Tom welcomed her into their home nestled in the foothills of the Berkshire Mountains, helped her adjust to her new environment that included a sister cat, and showered her with unconditional love without realizing that this adoption would not be their last. Unconditional is a touching narrative that shares insight into an East Coast couple's experiences as they adopted, nurtured, and enthusiastically loved retired racing Greyhounds.

Autorenporträt
Jeanne Cassidy was born in Brooklyn, New York, and lived on Long Island. After attending local schools, she chose Mary Washington College of the University of Virginia for her BA degree in Sociology. She and her husband, Tom, were married in 1957 and lived in Ridgefield, Connecticut, where they raised two sons. Jeanne taught in elementary schools there for twelve years, helping with curriculum writing. During that time, she earned two additional degrees in Education-one from Danbury State College and another from Fairfield University, both in Connecticut. Always interested in the arts, Jeanne studied piano for many years and enjoyed writing for local community publications. Her second career was in the entertainment industry, working for MTV Networks and Viacom, where she headed the press library and edited a diversity newsletter. During that time, she was able to accompany her husband in business travel abroad. Thanks to The Joan Rivers Show, she was inspired to adopt retired racing greyhounds, who became an important and wonderful part of her family life. In addition, writing became more and more interesting and enjoyable: mainly newsletters, poetry, and short stories. When taking care of pets became difficult, Jeanne chose to share the joy and love she had experienced with greyhounds in the hope that others would be inspired to consider them as pets-and so, this book.
