Motherhood was the most unexpected life transformation that Shannon Cairney had ever experienced. It's an identity shift bigger than most of us prepare for, changing everything in our lives including our marriage, body, self-esteem, friend groups and career. In the thick of motherhood, hardly recognizing herself and realizing she might be drowning in the martyrdom brought on by motherhood, Shannon finally starts to ask herself whether there could be a better way. From fighting off the stereotypical mom memes and fumbling through marriage after two kids, to what self-care looks like now as a mother, Shannon explores the messy side of one of the biggest identity shifts of our lives, from woman to mother, and from martyr to magic - offering humour, understanding, realness and some helpful tips along the way. "Other women's stories have helped me learn, grow and definitely feel less alone, and I hope mine do the same for you."
Shannon Cairney is a mother of two living with her children and husband in beautiful Squamish, B.C, Canada. When Shannon isn't working full time at her sales career, she is working on her podcast From Martyr to Magic or writing something - whether in her journal or drafting future book ideas. She has travelled solo while living on several different continents, but her favourite adventure so far has been raising her two kiddos. She is always dreaming of new places to travel with her family and new ideas to launch out into the world, and believes that "done" is better than "perfect" and to "just do the dang thing." Oh, and that mothers are amazing. And mostly she believes in the magic that life can offer us, and that if it feels like it's missing, it always somewhere just below the surface.
