Guarded from Above is Rav Grainom Lazewnik's personal account of his electrifying experiences during the years of World War II. Torn from his learning at Novardok yeshiva and forced into the Polish army, he later escaped the grip of Nazi captors and joined the partisans to help drive the retreating Germans back to Berlin. But more than an adventure story, Guarded from Above is a meditation on miracles, Divine Providence and the wisdom of the Sages.

Autorenporträt
Rav Grainom Lazewnik was a student of the Novardok yeshivos in Europe, learning under the Steipler Gaon, Rav Yaakov Yisroel Kanievsky, and other towering figures of Torah scholarship. At the outset of World War II he was drafted into the Polish army, sending him on an odyssey that brought him to join the partisans and later the Russian army to fight the Germans. Following the war, he headed up a new branch of the Novardok yeshiva in the American zone of Salzheim, Germany before emigrating to the United States. He established his own synagogue, Congregation Adar Gbyr in Brooklyn which he led for 50 years until his passing at 106 years of age. He was laid to rest on the same day as the burial of the great luminary of the Torah world, Rav Chaim Kanievsky, the son of his teacher, the Steipler.
