- Has Fay started cooking? - Fay's dead. - Who's in the kitchen? Where's auntie Jane? - In the cemetery since nineteen thirty. - If she's not back by eight, we'll start without her. It is 1970 in the Isle of Man and Christmas is approaching. Which can mean only one thing: time to memorise a thesaurus in the bathtub. Elderly sisters Elizabeth and Margery are greatly looking forward to a visit from young Holly, who is coming over from Liverpool for the festive season. But you do have to ask: are they both still compos mentis? They certainly seem stuck in the past somewhat. And when Holly finally arrives, odd things start to happen. Surreal things, one might say. Their bizarre behaviour raises several questions. Do the siblings have an ulterior motive in inviting Holly? Why are they so hostile to one another? Is Margery a mermaid? What really happened during the war? And why hasn't Fay laid the table yet? ...Oh, right, she's dead, isn't she? It's just one excuse after another. Relict of the Above is an existential satire in five acts for an all-female cast. Contains obsolete language, nudity, substance abuse and sarcasm.
